We share 3 Flea Market Tips! You would think that after scouring so many flea markets, we would know where to find the best items. But the great thing about flea markets is that there is always a gem, if you look hard enough. Here we share a few of our favorite places to feel the joy of junking!
1. Paris, France Les Puces flea market in Paris is the largest of its kind in the world and is brimming with vintage and antique treasures. Sprawling antiques & vintage street market with around 2,500 sellers, open on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
2. Lisbon, Portugal Every Saturday and Tuesday morning locals and visitors flock to Lisbon’s most entertaining flea market Mercado de Santa Clara, located in the historic district of Alfama in Lisbon, to hunt for bargains and curiosities. This bustling market offers a vast array of products ranging from fresh produce to vintage items and antiques.
Strolling through the market's narrow aisles, visitors can sample traditional Portuguese foods, browse unique handmade crafts, and experience the lively energy of the market's vendors and shoppers. With its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, the Mercado de Santa Clara is a true gem of Lisbon, offering an authentic and unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
At this flea market, I bought this wooden Inuit depicted above, and brought it home.
On arrival, I found out it was a rare vintage design from Norway's leading designer in the 1950s and '60s, Arne Tjomsland!
How lucky to have found that amongst so many items on this immense flea market!
The leather string, unfortunately, didn't stand the test of time. But after returning home the twist tie was replaced with a new leather string, like the original design.
3. Hamburg, Germany Flohschanze, one of Hamburg's favorite flea markets, takes place every Saturday. Watch the video below to see what you can expect from an afternoon of wandering through the flea market.
