Brass Trays and Candles: The Dynamic Duo for Creating an Enchanting Home Environment

Moroccan brass trays have been a staple in Moroccan culture for centuries. These trays were initially used to serve food or tea to guests, but they have since become a popular decoration item in Moroccan homes. Along with their exquisite craftsmanship and intricate designs, brass trays are often accompanied by candle holders that have a significant effect on the atmosphere of the home. However, not often do you see the brass trays and candles combined!

History

The Moroccan brass tray has a rich history that dates back to the Islamic Golden Age.

These trays were crafted by skilled artisans who were experts in metallurgy and Islamic art. Initially, the brass trays were made for practical use, but as their popularity grew, they became more intricate and were used for decorative purposes.

The artisans would etch intricate designs onto the brass, often incorporating geometric patterns or floral motifs. These designs were inspired by Islamic art and architecture, making them an important part of Moroccan heritage.

Moroccan culture, in particular, has a deep appreciation for candles and their ability to create a warm and welcoming environment.

Our Moroccan craftsman Abderrazzak started the process with a sketched design made by Cake's founder Laurine Brugman that is then translated onto a sheet of brass.

He merged candle holders into brass trays, and then works the brass using traditional techniques to shape and embellish the tray, creating a stunning piece that is both functional and decorative.

The combination of candle holders on a brass tray provides a warm and inviting atmosphere in the home, making it a popular decoration item in the home.

The flickering light of the candles on the brass tray's reflection creates a soothing and tranquil environment, perfect for relaxing after a long day.

Moroccan brass trays are still handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques, preserving the country's cultural heritage. Many artisans have even started incorporating more modern designs into their brass trays to make them more appealing to a global audience, as you can see on our trays as well.
